State Coronavirus Updates

  • Secretary of Health Dr. Levine
    • As of 12 am today, there are 1,146 new positive cases; 25,345 positive cases now statewide in all 67 counties
    • 1,250 are healthcare workers tested positive; 1,869 who tested positive are in 232 nursing homes and/or long-term living facilities
    • 2,306 have been hospitalized or 10 % of total cases; 666 of those hospitalized require the use of a ventilator or breathing machine
    • As of 12 pm today, 42% hospital beds, 37% ICU beds and 70% ventilators are still available
    • 584 deaths are adults who tested positive
  • Five State Treasurers Call on Manufacturers to Release Ventilator Repair Manuals: Pennsylvania Treasurer Joe Torsella joined with Delaware Treasurer Colleen Davis, Illinois Treasurer Michael Frerichs, Rhode Island Treasurer General Seth Magaziner, and Colorado Treasurer Dave Young on Tuesday, April 14 to call on manufacturers of ventilators to release service manuals to repair ventilators, for the duration of the coronavirus pandemic. Without this critically important information, hospitals are unable to make repairs to ventilators, rendering them unusable during a time of dire need. Regional Coronavirus Update

  • ​​Pittsburgh International Airport
    • The Federal Aviation Administration awarded a $36 million grant to the Findlay airport to help maintain operations and to replace revenue that has evaporated because of the steep decline in travel precipitated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Pittsburgh International was one of many commercial and general aviation airports to get relief Tuesday, April 14 under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act airport grant program. The grants can be used for airport operating expenses, including payroll and utilities, to cover capital costs, and to make debt payments.
  • Philips Respironics – Respirator Manufacturing
    • Dutch company Royal Philips announced Tuesday, April 14 that it has received FDA approval for a new model ventilator that will be produced at Philips Respironics’ facilities in New Kensington and Murrysville. In a release, the company describes the new Philips Respironics E30 ventilator as “a versatile and easy-to-use non-invasive and invasive ventilator which has been designed for large scale production.” Philips Respironics officials plan to produce 15,000 E30 units per week as a complement to ramped-up production of 4,000 hospital ventilators per week.
