Continuing the Pittsburgh Conversation: Major National/International Media Coverage
To build on the global attention that resulted from the Pittsburgh Summit (G-20) 2009 and the opportunity the summit created to tell the story of our region's transformation and its balanced economy, the Pittsburgh Regional Alliance (PRA) has launched a six-month Pittsburgh World Tour 2010 initiative, made possible by the Pittsburgh Partnership, whose investments are supporting global media relations and other marketing activities to continue the conversation about Pittsburgh. Below is the major national and international media coverage, post-G-20, that's continuing the conversation about the Pittsburgh region.
November 2010 Changing Gears, a public radio project about the future of the Industrial Midwest recently held up Pittsburgh as a case study in a four-part series that examined the region as a successful transformation model. "Reinventing Pittsburgh" was broadcast in the Ann Arbor, Chicago and Cleveland markets.

Pittsburgh is profiled in this article examining how smaller cities are hotbeds for technology endeavors. November 14, 2010 The Peninsula (Qatar's English language daily): Pittsburgh Seeks Qatar's Energy Expertise The Peninsula Sub-Editor Tofol Al Nasr visited Pittsburgh on November 9 and 10 to learn more about Pittsburgh's energy economy and to cover the Pittsburgh Middle East Institute Conference, with its focus on "Clean Power: Pittsburgh and the Middle East." In her coverage, Ms. Al Nasr wrote, "As such, 'long-term friendship' was a prevailing theme throughout the Qatari delegation's visit to Pittsburgh. It became clear that this would be the first of many visits strengthening the relationship between Qatar and Pittsburgh. While Qatar initially sought Pittsburgh's advice on enhancing its healthcare and educational sectors, Pittsburgh is now seeking Qatar's expertise and market power in the energy sector. This visit continues to position the Pittsburgh region as a compelling place for business investment—now particularly with Asian economies seeking foreign direct investment opportunities coming out of recession. For two consecutive days, Pittsburgh had the front cover of Quebec City's Le Soleil newspaper, with a special feature by Correspondent Pierre Couture about what the new CONSOL Energy Center means to the city. Published in the June issue of HARMONIE, Czech Journalist Petr Kadlec's report features an interview with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra's Maestro Manfred Honeck. According to the Maestro, "Pittsburgh is a wonderful city, a great city! It's now, as I've heard recently, nominated for the third time for the most livable city in America, which means something! The most important thing is actually the spirit of people: they are extremely nice, helpful and professional … What I like very much is the passion and the enthusiasm of Pittsburgh's people. It is a kind of energy that you can see in business, in life, in families." Honeck talked with Kadlec, who visited Pittsburgh in May 2010, just prior to the PSO's 2010 Tour of Europe, which included a performance in Prague. He described his enthusiasm for Pittsburgh and the world-renowned PSO.
