A competitive workforce is critical to the Pittsburgh region's economic success, and critical to any employer's success in the global marketplace. The Conference and its Affiliates are working to position the Pittsburgh region as a location of opportunity and choice, – benefitting employers and enhancing access to jobs in order to create a youthful and diverse workforce.
Our current initiatives aim to create a workforce that is:
- Accessible – ImaginePittsburgh.com is a workplace attraction site, inviting users to learn about living and working in the Pittsburgh region. The site is also the portal to ImagineMyNewJob.com – a one-stop, comprehensive job search engine that aggregates all the electronic job postings within a 71-mile radius of Pittsburgh, covering all 10 counties of southwestern Pennsylvania. Jobs can be searched by industry sector, keyword, location and salary.
The Conference is partnering with Western Pennsylvania Career Services Association (WestPACS), a consortium of career counselors at 44 regional colleges and universities. The partnership will help the region retain local college graduates by effectively connecting them with the most current information about regional jobs and our economy.
- Diverse – Recognizing that the modern, successful workplace is a diverse workplace, we strive to create an ever-more inclusive community.
We actively partner with the new Regional Opportunity Center, which was created to help residents, whether longer-term residents or those new to the area, become well-connected to our communities. Stay tuned to ImaginePittsburgh.com for information about this initiative.
- Prepared –The Pittsburgh Regional Compact brings employers and educators together to create a learning environment designed to give students the skills needed for the jobs in our region. Key to this process is educating students of all ages about the variety of choices available to them – both in terms of career paths as well as the variety of post-secondary educational options that can prepare them for promising careers.
For both youth and adult workers, the Conference is partnering with the private sector and the workforce system to help create more clearly defined networks of industry, educators and providers that can respond to critical workforce needs by sector, building more effective career awareness and skills training
