The Pittsburgh Partnership World Tour 2010 - Imagine what you can do here!

The world is paying attention to the globally competitive Pittsburgh region, and the Pittsburgh Regional Alliance (PRA) is responding.

We're going global, as well as welcoming the world back to Pittsburgh, in order to:

  • generate business investment;
  • attract and retain top talent; and
  • demonstrate how Pittsburgh is energizing the 21st-century economy.

As host of  the Pittsburgh (G-20) Summit 2009, Pittsburgh caught the world's attention. Its economic, environmental and quality of life transformation; diverse economy; top-notch ''live-work-play'' assets; and corporate, academic and non-profit thought leadership were the subjects of tens of thousands of global media stories.

To build on 2009 successes and advance both our region's story and its economy, the PRA has launched a six-month Pittsburgh World Tour 2010 — made possible by the Pittsburgh Partnership, whose investments are supporting global media relations and marketing activities to continue the conversation about Pittsburgh, in general, and specifically about these key opportunities:

World Environment Day

The Pittsburgh Regional Alliance (PRA) hosted the Pittsburgh Transformation and Sustainability River Cruise on June 2, 2010, sailing on the Explorer, a green vessel built expressly for Pittsburgh — a globally recognized sustainability leader. On the eve of the Water Matters! Global Water Conference – part of the United Nation's World Environment Day 2010 (for which Pittsburgh was selected as the North American host city) – the cruise provided national media and distinguished presenters in town for the conference with a narrated tour of Pittsburgh's three rivers and its globally touted environmental and economic transformation. The tour explored how these waterways were transformed from accessories for industry to assets that now support recreation and commerce that previously were unimaginable. The Explorer navigated past riverfront highlights that represent Pittsburgh's sustainable leadership including the David L. Lawrence Convention Center and Washington's Landing. Additional highlights included Point State Park, PNC Park, the North Shore and others.

Distinguished media onboard included journalists from The Philadelphia Inquirer, Environmental Magazine, Thomson Reuters (San Francisco), Chemical & Engineering News, ClimateWire, The Times Picayune and the Canadian Broadcast Corp.
